HBOT Management for Refractory Osteomyelitis
Osteomyelitis is an infection of bone that thrives in a hypoxic environment. HBOT raises the oxygen tension, enhances leukocyte reduction, optimizes osteogenesis and neovascularization, and enhances osteoclastic activity to facilitate debris removal. The best results are achieved with HBOT managements administered for approximately two hours, twice daily for 21 days. The cure rate when combined with antibiotics is approximately 85%.
